Don't get zapped in room 311! Today we learned all about electrical energy and how we use it. The students read an a article on Ben Franklin as a connection to electricity! There was no better way to end electrcitiy than with Schoolhouse Rock, and they all sang along!

Is it Kinetic or Potential? (Ole') We have LOTS of energy in room 311, but don't take my word for it. Ask your child what they know about Potential and Kinetic Energy. For the next two weeks students will participate in many hands on lessons as they learn and explore the 5 forms of energy. Stay tuned... there is a lot of POTENTIAL learning that will take place! PS: Click on the button above to find out why your child is singing, Ole'! Every once in a while a teacher feels the need to brag... Congratulations to our class for completing over 56,800 combined problems on IXL. That is dedication! Unfortunately, I'm sorry to report that our free trial membership for IXL English Language Arts skills has now ended. BUT ...Have no fear, Math IXL is still here! Students are encouraged to login and practice for 10 minutes a day. Your child is expected choose a skill that will be review for them. Each week I will assign specific skills to work on for reinforcement of facts and review of concepts previously learned. As a gentle reminder, from now until the end of the school year students will still be taking a timed test twice a week for fact fluency. Each Monday and Friday we will spend only a a few minutes working on our multiplication, division, addition, and subtractions facts. A few minutes a day keeps the cobwebs away! No need to make flashcards, simply login to IXL and work on your skills there, or try factmonster.com for extra practice. Everyone knows how much I love contests...well our class has just been entered into IXL's most recent challenge. The class who competes the most problems on IXL from now until April 18th wins. In reality, we all will win from practicing math every day! Here is the IXL contest: The Spring Learning Showdown is underway! There’s still plenty of time to join this month-long contest to see which classrooms can answer the most questions on IXL. Competition is fierce, so practice from home, at the computer lab, and on your iPads. On April 18th, we’ll announce the winning classrooms on Facebook—each one will receive a pizza party! It's a win win situation! We have nothing to lose and everything to gain from extra math practice. Keep up the amazing work! Today no horseshoes, four leaf clovers, or rabbit's feet were necessary! The key to MCAS was not the lucky charm...it was slow and steady wins the race! Although I was unable to look at the work each student completed, what I was able to witness was the work ETHIC they displayed throughout the entire First Session of MCAS . I watched as each student showed off all of their skills and reading strategies. I saw many students turning back into the text, perhaps searching for evidence? I witnessed hard work paying off! I am overjoyed with the confidence, and perseverance they displayed today. Be sure to praise your child for the efforts they put in and give them time to run around and play today! This was no easy task, sitting behind a desk for over an hour, thinking about their thinking, laboring over multiple choice and open response questions, a total of 24 questions needed answers! We are 1/2 way through, and not out of this yet! Tomorrow brings more hard work. If you ask your child if they are ready for the challenge...the resounding answer is...YES! I look forward to what tomorrow will bring...Day one of Spring! Check out this video Gianna's mom found...it's pretty catchy! Did you know that Kids can Bowl for Free all summer? Last year I found this great site through the Upton Mom's group. Today I signed my girls up for Free bowling at Pinz, two strings every day, from April 18- September 2. This great deal is also available at Fico's in Franklin and many other centers around MA. Don't worry parents, you don't have to just sit and watch. For a one time fee, parents can join in on the fun! Check it out, maybe we'll see you there! Do you know of any other Free or Reduced events for families? Please post and share! |
