Is the rumor true the students have no homework this week?
Answer: Not exactly! NO SPELLING homework was given out this week! However, students will still be expected to practice their multiplication facts as they will still have timed tests this week.
Should my student be practicing multiplication facts each night?
Answer: YES! Every Monday and Friday students will be taking a timed test on their multiplication facts. Once they successfully demonstrate fact fluency, they can move on to the next set of facts. Successful demonstration = 25 correctly answered facts in the 90 seconds they are given to complete it. If a student has attempted the same facts several times, I make other accommodations so that all students are successful!
My Child Knows the facts but is getting bogged down by the time.
Answer: No problem, Each student is given a chance to read the facts aloud if I feel the written piece is hindering their performance. Please contact me if your child is unable to communicate this to me and I will be sure to make the accommodations necessary
Is my child supposed to be doing IXL and Raz kids each night? It's not always clear in the agenda.
Answer: Yes and NO Each week I ask that students read, listen to, and take a quiz on at least ONE book on Raz-Kids. Some have been more consistent at completing this task than others. On IXL I ask that they keep their skills sharp, if no ixl is assigned, they can always go on for 10-15 minutes to review addition, subtraction, multiplication, money, geometry, or time!
Are you having a class holiday party?
Answer: No and yes! You should have received an email from our room parent(s) explaining Party in a BOX and bring your Favorite Mug to school day on WEDNESDAY! Parents will need to pack their own student a special snack along with a small surprise in a wrapped box. Party in a box will be the AM snack. On Wednesday in the afternoon we will enjoy sipping hot cocoa in our favorite mugs and nibble on a gingerbread or sugar cookie as I read aloud from our Author of the month, Jan Brett.
Are you getting a student teacher?
Answer: YES! On Wednesday, we will be having a special visit from Ms Duarte, a student from Framingham State who will be joining our class after the break. She will be with us until the spring as she fulfills her Student Teaching practicum in our room. More details to follow!
Are you ok, my child told me you've been out of school?
I am fine! My own children have had Well Visits at their pediatricians...when it rains it pours!
As always, if you have any questions that were not answered here...feel free to email me or make a comment and I will try to answer it as quickly as I can!
Here's to a safe and healthy rest of the week!
