Gingerbread Trap STEM Challenge
On Monday Mrs. Webster read the "The Gingerbread Baby" by Jan Brett. Now we are trying to catch a gingerbread baby just like the story. Every group is making their own gingerbread man traps. In addition, we have to use 1 of the 4 simple machines in our trap. The fun part is we get to test our trap. (a pulley, a ramp, a wedge or a wheel and axle) In addition to making the traps, half of a group is in charge of writing a persuasive letter to Matti and the other half needs to explain the steps to show how the trap works. * Matti is the little boy in the book that catches the gingerbread baby. |
Endangered Animals ResearchLast week we learned about and researched our endangered animals, but this week we are on to making our poster. First we have to do a graphic organizer with a title. Next we go on our poster with our writing. We love our posters of our endangered animals! | |
Speaking of Animals: Southwick Zoomobile
Let's Talk Math
Here's an example. 9 X 7
First: We know that 7 is the same as (5 +2)
Next we multiply (9X5) and (9 X 2)
Finally we add the 2 products together to find the final product 45 + 18 = 63
9X7
9 X (5+2)
0r
(9X5) + (9X2)
The distributive property helps us when we are having trouble finding the product. It can also help us when we are multiplying big numbers.
