Another part of our week was spent learning about fables. Each fable has a moral. A moral is the lesson from the story. One of the fables is The Tortoise and the Hare. The moral is slow and steady wins the race!
In addition. we also read historical fiction this week. Sailing to America is a story about a boy and girl going to America with their mom to go see their da (their dad). Da left first and sailed to America to find a job. The mom and child needed to go later on a steamboat that smelled LIKE A DIRTY SOCK.
Did you know that LIKE A DIRTY SOCK is a simile? We learned that a simile is when you're comparing two things and you use the words LIKE or AS. For example: I'm as quick as a cricket, I'm as small as an ant, and I'm as happy as a lark. We even made up our own similes about ourselves!
Kanav said he was as tall as a book shelf
Logan was as tough as a rhino
Richy wrote, I'm as good at hockey as Bobby Orr
Paul thinks he is as happy as a birthday boy
Stephen is as strong as GRONK!
Lauren said she was as cute as a ladybug
Anoushka thinks she is as playful as a puppy playing with her owner
Anna stumped everyone, but we found that she wrote she was as sly as a fox.
Nick also stumped us, his simile was as quiet as a fox
All week we were as busy as bees. Next week you will get to read our class Newspaper with more details about these same topics along with our pumpkin persuasion stories, Turkey Trouble, book buddies, and How we answer multiple choice questions.
