Next week we will wrap up the final book commercials before opening up the voting lines. Students will be able to cast their votes and choose which book they are most excited to read next. Which book commercial were you most inspired by? Feel free to Share your opinions by commenting on this blog.
Speaking of Blogs...
Señora Cardamone and I swapped classes this week for a few lessons. Our class spent three sessions with her learning about Blogs, while I taught her class how to effectively use dialogue in thier writing.
Digital Citizenship, How and Why we Blog, and writing appropriate comments were all part of the lessons on Blogging. Next week we will continue to build upon our writing skills in class as we choose more topics to blog about. Do you want to learn more about Kidsblog?
Students will be bringing home parental permission slips and an explanation of this web 2.0, 21st century skill next week. Until then, Ask your child what they blogged about and what other students were blogging, it's impressive to see the differentiation in ideas and interests within the classroom.
Speaking of Differentiation...
The third grade team, as part of our S.M.A.R.T. goal, have joined forces to differentiate, remediate, and enrich all students in math this year. Similar to our spelling groups, students are given a short 10 question math assessment at the start of each math unit. Once assessed, students are grouped according to their proficiency in each skill. Groups will meet bi-weekly each month to ensure appropriate differentiated instruction and groups will change as new skills are assessed. Differentiation takes place during our RtI and Rachel's Challenge block each Monday. If your student did not meet this week for MATH group, they will be meeting next week on Thursday, due to the Monday Holiday!
Speaking of Veteran's Day:
I'd like to personally thank our Veteran's past, present, and future for the work that they do to keep our Country safe. It's hard for our students to understand what has happened in history, but let us try not to forget those who have lost lives so that we may have our freedom. Next week, we will continue to explore non-fiction text as we learn more about the meaning of Veteran's Day.
